Re: Beastlord Karankawa's Painting Diary

Nice to see someone posting progress shots along the way ^_^.  I've found that getting feedback early on really helps with the final product.  Plus if you gather a following you feel more inclined to finish the models!

I really love the basing style you've gone with on your Quest guys.  How did you go about it?

Re: Beastlord Karankawa's Painting Diary

Thanks, grey_death.  I like to show the inprogress photos for that very reason (people can help while its being painted up as opposed to when its finished and a little too late to fix).

The Quest bases are essentially a paper scan of a board section cut to fit for the base, then built up with a touch of texture (ala white glue) and paint as needed.

Re: Beastlord Karankawa's Painting Diary

And - update time!

Centigor bodies are brown (many layers, but they seemed to all blend together into the color...brown).

Now, for this next picture, I'm in need of serious help.  Never tried to paint an 'ethreal' before, and I know realise how difficult it really is to pull something like this off, but take a look at my first attempt below and guide me on the correct path.  Overall - it seems just too dark and looks more like dry green stuff?

Help!

Re: Beastlord Karankawa's Painting Diary

For your ethereal dorf, try some more highlighting to help break that green stuff look.  Brighten it up a bit more and see where it takes you.  I'm not saying straight white highlights, but bringing it up should help it along.

Re: Beastlord Karankawa's Painting Diary

Thanks, grey_death.  Here are some things that I'm going to try with the next one:

- brighter color of green (and not so many green / gray layers)
- more white highlights (several all ready - mostly in the beard - but needs to be brighter)

Depending on how that turns out - I may also try blue instead of green.

Re: Beastlord Karankawa's Painting Diary

So - few close ups:

HQ Choices:

Officers

Commissars

Staff Team

Misc (the two in the middle were my first ever GW models to paint)

Inquisitor Lord (his ride really needs some pimping!)

Mortar Squads

Anti-Tank

Anti-Personnel

This may be nuts, but I want to redo all the bases and update all the highlights on everyone (as well as finish those that are not complete)!

Re: Beastlord Karankawa's Painting Diary

Thanks, Will.  I've actually had more success with my assualt infantry army - competition and such.  Always great to see the Tyranid player cry when I finish pounding his Hive Tyrant into the dirt with the butt of a las-gun.

Heavy support (and "other):

The Rides (Chimera that can convert into Basalisks, Griffins, or Hellhounds)

The Guns (pending magnetized side sponsons - can conver into Demolishers)

Now then - this is what I want my troops to at least look like when updated:

Oh - and here is the update on my Centigors - all the brown work is complete - on schedule to complete this week.

Below is how they started out:

Below is the first unit I completed many years ago (3+?) - I'll be updating them before too terribly long:
